Day One
Session 1 – On the topic of topicals; Have we underestimated the role of topical therapy in acne treatment
After taking this program, participants will be able to:
- Optimize the management of acne with topical therapy based on patient needs, presentation, and skin type.
- Recognize and prevent the consequences of delayed or sub-optimal acne treatment, and the role of retinoids in reducing the risk of acne scarring.
- Improve patient experiences and overall patient adherence by using practical tips and strategies to optimize clinical outcomes with topical acne therapies.
Session 2 – Optimal Management of Moderate Psoriasis: Practical Points for the Primary Care Physician
Upon completion of this continuing education program, participants will be able to:
- Correctly stratify patients by the severity of their psoriasis and distinguish moderate to severe psoriasis from mild psoriasis (paying attention to scalp, face, palms, soles, genitals and nails).
- Identify psoriasis as a systemic disorder that often requires systemic treatment.
- Confidently manage moderate psoriasis patients.
- Establish treatment that considers potential co-morbidities in patients with PsO
Session 3 – Rosacea Update; strategies for diagnosis and treatment in primary care
Upon completion of this continuing medical education program, participants will be able to:
- Identify and assess the key diagnostic features of rosacea, and differentiate them from other common dermatological conditions
- Discuss management strategies based on patient characteristics and identify means to optimize therapy
- Discuss practical tips and strategies to improve patient adherence and outcomes
Day 2
Session 4 – Evidence-Based Guide to Eczema Management in Primary Care
Upon completion of this continuing education program, participants will be able to:
- Explore the pathophysiology, risk factors and patient impact of AD
- Review the diagnosis and management of three common clinical presentations of AD
- Examine the role of non-pharmacological interventions in the management of AD
- Customize the pharmacological treatment for a specific AD patient
- Develop an eczema care plan for a patient with AD
Session 5 – A Topical Conversation: Optimizing Treatment in Patients with Psoriasis
Upon completion of this continuing education program, participants will be able to:
- Distinguish psoriasis from other conditions (differential diagnosis)
- Be confident of the treatment options for each severity of psoriasis
- Acquire a comprehensive knowledge of existing and new topical therapies
- Choose the most beneficial therapeutic strategy for your psoriasis patients
- Confidently prescribe the appropriate treatment for your patient
Session 6 – On Your Toes! How to optimize the assessment and management of toe nail fungus
Upon completion of this continuing education program, participants will be able to:
- Recognize clinical presentations and risk factors that would prompt examination and testing for onychomycosis.
- Apply a recommended clinical pathway for the work-up, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, and treatment of onychomycosis based on the severity of the disease.
- Educate patients to recognize risk factors for onychomycosis infection and to establish treatment expectations to maximize adherence and outcomes.
